This necklace is hand pieced together with varying sized of sliced tagua nuts and colors: true red, black and grey. It is hung on soft leather with a sliding knot for optimal wear. The piece is a bit asymmetrical for a unique piece that has no equal. Size: 64 cm long and 6 cm wide in the front. Handmade in Ecuador, where we work on a fair trade basis with the cooperative that made this necklace.
Tagua is gathered in the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador. It provides many jobs in gathering, drying and processing the natural nuts. The nuts themselves are usually about 5 cm long and 3 cm across. Originally they were widely used for buttons before the invention of plastic. After the tagua button industry died, it took a long time before the use of tagua in jewelry became popular. With more and more customers demanding eco-friendly options, tagua is ideal as its sustainably grown without damaging the land through mining.
